Sixteen

Anna

Blaze and Aksel are waiting for Felix, Griffyn and me in the living room. We walk in together and when I go to sit next to Felix on the couch, he pulls me directly into his lap and wraps his arms around me.

“It’s time to discuss what we learned at the ball.” Aksel leans back so he’s sitting in the armchair like he’s a king.

“If the Garmentas have a weaver then we need to get into their house,” Blaze says.

“How are we going to do that? They’re a super powerful family of demons.” Griffyn crosses his arms as he leans back against the wall.

“We’ve done harder,” Felix reminds them. He drops a kiss on my neck.

“Then what’s the problem?” I ask.

Blaze’s eyes are glued to Felix and I’s movements from his spot near the fireplace.

“This family is close to the demon elder. We’ll be doing this without the council’s approval,” Felix explains.

“It’s unsanctioned,” Aksel says.

“Not entirely. We are doing it to find Killian. Which we are assigned to do.” Blaze hasn’t stopped staring at Felix and me.

I shift a little on Felix’s lap from his attention.

“But we would have to explain how our investigation led us to need a weaver and why we didn’t ask the director for one,” Griffyn says.

“Exactly. So, this mission needs to go perfectly. No mistakes. Which means you are staying behind Anna.” Aksel claps his hands like this conversation is over, but it’s far from it.

I open my mouth, but three other voices speak first.

“No.”

“That’s not happening.”

“Nope.”

I look around at the three men who just stood up for me with a smile on my face. “I guess I’m coming.”

“I’m not stopping you to be an asshole. It’s not safe and you’re untrained.”

I point a finger at Aksel. “Listen Akshole, I was serious when I said I wasn’t being left out of another mission. We already tried your approach, now we give mine a shot.”

He clenches his fist while taking several measured breaths before nodding once sharply.

“Great, now that that’s sorted, how are we going about this?” Griffyn asks.

He pushes away from the wall and comes to sit next to us on the couch, pulling my legs into his lap.

Once again, Blaze is staring at us. Does he want me to sit with him now that we are trying things out? We barely touch each other. Being in his arms while we danced was one of the first times.

“We need to establish their patterns so we know when to strike,” Felix says. He picks up a piece of my hair, playing with it.

“Right. We will be doing patrols of their home in shifts of two. Someone will have to be there at all times until we identify a repetitive time they’re gone. Felix, you and I will start tonight so prep. Griffyn and Blaze, you’ll take over in the morning.” Aksel walks out of the room.

I press a quick kiss to Felix’s chin and Griffyn’s cheek before running after Aksel.

“Aksel!”

He stops with one foot on the stairs.
